Research interests: coronary artery disease, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI/TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair (e.g. MitraClip) and replacement (TMVR), left atrial appendage closure, patent foramen ovale closure, acute stroke intervention (thrombectomy), carotid disease and intervention, renal denervation, renal artery stenosis and intervention, peripheral arterial disease and intervention, non-invasive structural imaging (TEE, CTA)

Dr. Stefan Bertog is the co-director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota and a staff cardiologist at the CardioVascular Center in Frankfurt, Germany. His clinical interests are coronary angiography and intervention, peripheral vascular disease, device-based treatment of resistant hypertension and structural cardiac interventions including transcatheter aortic valve replacement and left atrial appendage and patent foramen ovale closure.

He received his medical degree from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany and doctoral degree from the Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. After his internship in Frankfurt, Germany, he completed internal medicine residency in Cleveland, OH, and cardiovascular disease as well as interventional cardiology fellowships at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He has been a staff cardiologist at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2006 and at the CardioVascular Center in Frankfurt since 2013.

Dr. Bertog has authored or co-authored numerous original and review articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and is associate editor of the Textbook Interventions in Structural, Valvular and Congenital Heart Disease. He has been the co-director of TRENDS (conference on neurohumoral modulation) and invited to present research or lecture in Asia, Europe and in the US.
